The Theatre Group now focuses on productions at the Nottingham Playhouse which portrays a varied and exciting program. Plus we get an excellent reduction on seat prices and within the group we can also book and pay later. This enables Marianne to canvas the group to ask who wants to go and then reserve seats. Productions are advertised by email and WhatsApp to members of the group, with a deadline date for payment to be received.
On this basis the group doesn’t require a meeting and, as no meeting room is needed, new members are able to join the group.
Forthcoming Outings
The next production the group are going to see in September is proving to be very popular. 46 members are going to see 'Til the Stars Come Down' at Nottingham Playhouse. The play originally premiered at the National Theatre in 2024 and was immediately nominated for an
Olivier Award. This play is set in a former East Midlands mining town at a wedding where secrets and loyalties are tested.
Highlights from outings this year
The theatre group recently attended several excellent productions at the Playhouse. Among these, The Market Deeping Model Railway Club emerged as a standout favorite among the audience. Members praised the comedy highly, awarding it a standing ovation and calling it the most enjoyable play in years.
The theatre group also watched Small Island and The Beekeeper of Aleppo. Both productions explored the intense struggles of fleeing persecution, seeking better lives, and integrating into British society. These plays contrasted expectation with reality, delivering difficult-to-watch scenes alongside deeply uplifting moments.
In the spring, the group watched Punch, a hard-hitting local play based on a true restorative justice story. The emotional plot follows a grieving couple bonding with the offender who killed their son in an unprovoked attack. Praised for its fantastic acting and uplifting conclusion, this highly popular production will return to the Playhouse in 2027.
